In #6 – QUEER SELLS untersucht White on White rhetorische Figuren, mit denen es weißen Subjekten gelingt, ihre Identität als Gewinner_innen der globalen Gegenwart zu verwischen und so ihre Machtposition zu erhalten. Hierzu enthüllt das mann-männliche Duo die noch geheime Rezeptur der zukünftigen Konsistenz von Macht: eine geschickte Kombination von Zeichen der Zugehörigkeit zur Norm mit den Zeichen eines möglichen Minderheitenstatus – im Fall von White on White also die strategische Mixtur von Weißsein und Queersein. Wie Judith Butler beobachtet hat, „entsteht jeweils eine gewisse Komik, wenn das Wort queer sich soweit von sexueller Praxis ablöst, dass jede_r wohlmeinende Heterosexuelle es sich zu eigen machen kann.“ In #6 – QUEER SELLS versuchen sich Iggy Lond Malmborg und Johannes Maria Schmit an diesem komischen Genre. Entsprechend der Logik des glücklichen Sprechakts, gilt hier: Was ich von mir sage, das bin ich.

In #6 – QUEER SELLS WHITE ON WHITE researches on the latest, most sophisticated strategies through which „white” subjects maintain their power position and succeed in dissimulating their identity as winners of the globalized world.

In the upcoming piece the male duo therefore reveals the secret recipe of their future success on the art-market: presenting a sophisticated montage of signifiers of the mainstream with signifiers of a possible minority-status. In the case of White on White: the strategic combination of Whiteness and Queerness.

The attempted pinkwashing of our company follows the example of power´s contemporary grammatics: „Yes, I am the president of the united states and male – but i´m also black“ or „yes, i am the chancelor of one of the most powerful countries in europe and white – but i´m also a woman.“ are the speech acts wedded to the future consistency of power.

But how do statements in the social sphere work that do not relate to the appearance of the utterer? Why can Göran Persson claim himself to be a feminist and what privileges can be gained from such a move?

As Judith Butler put it „a certain comedy” emerges when „queer” becomes so utterly disjoined from sexual practice that every well-meaning heterosexual takes on the term. In #6 WHITE ON WHITE is embracing the comical genre, by presenting a queer performance duo consisting of two straight white males.

White on White is the artistic relationship between Iggy Lond Malmborg (Malmö) and Johannes Maria Schmit (Berlin). The aim of the duo and the series of the same name is to investigate | criticize | affirm the identificatory process between WHITE audiences and WHITE performers on stage. White on White devotes itself with passion to the sight of the standard on European stages. In alternative to the concept of representation called multiculturalism, the series of the same name meets the question of appropriation/colonization of the so-called stranger with a radically discrete gesture: White on White devotes itself to WHITENESS.
