Jede*r sucht es, alle sehnen sich danach und ganze Gesellschaften sind darauf aufgebaut: Gemeinsam mit zwei Stuttgarter Musiker*innen – der Sopranistin Gabriela Lesch und Thilo Ruck an der Gitarre- macht sich die finnische Kompanie OBLIVIA mit ihrer Musiktheater-Performance PLEASURE auf, das lebende Lustprinzip Mensch mittels Bewegung, Sprache, Klang und Gesang spielerisch und assoziativ zu erkunden. In eingängigen Liedern zwischen Musical und Punkrock, körpergemachten Sounds und den komplexen Klängen nähern sie sich den unterschiedlichen Aspekten all dessen, was Pleasure ausmachen kann: Leichtfüßig mäandern ihre Songs zwischen alltäglichen und universellen Themen, erzählen sowohl von profanem Schönheitskult, ewigem Wachstumsversprechen, Freizeitstress und Self-Care-Trends, als auch von den großen Sinnfragen unseres Daseins. Denn am Ende bleibt doch nur ein großes Nichts – oder?

PLEASURE ist der dritte und letzte Teil der Reihe „Emotions and Politics“, in der OBLIVIA der vielschichtigen Gemengelage emotionaler Zustände und ihren persönlichen wie politischen Implikationen in drei Musiktheater-Produktionen nachspürt: Mit VERDRÄNGEN VERDRÄNGEN VERDRÄNGEN wurde 2020 im Rahmen des ECLAT-Festivals bereits das erste Stück der Trilogie mit großem Erfolg am Theater Rampe uraufgeführt, der zweite Teil, die NOperas!-Produktion OBSESSIONS kam Anfang 2022 im Theater Bremen und unlängst an der Oper Wuppertal mit jeweils unterschiedlicher, lokaler Besetzung zur Premiere. Die Uraufführung von PLEASURE, wiederum in der Rampe zu erleben, schließt den Kreis um das Emotionale im Politischen und die politischen Auswirkungen unserer gefühlsbedingten Verwerfungen – und das auf Oblivias ganz eigene Art und Weise, wenn allzu Menschliches und Weltbewegendes mühelos verwoben und humorvoll verhandelt wird. Die mehrfach ausgezeichnete Komponistin Yiran Zhao steuert wieder die elektronischen Sounds bei, während der finnische Sound-Performer Juha Valkeapää erstmals das Kern-Team verstärkt.

Everyone seeks it, everyone longs for it, and entire societies are built on it: Together with two Stuttgart based musicians – the mezzo-soprano Gabriela Lesch and guitarist Thilo Ruck – the Finnish company OBLIVIA sets out to playfully and associatively explore the human principle of pleasure through movement, language, sound and song. In catchy songs – somewhere between musical and punk rock, body-made sounds, and the complex (electro) sounds of the multi-award-winning composer Yiran Zhao – they approach the different aspects of everything that makes up pleasure. Their songs meander light-footedly between everyday and universal themes, telling of the mundane cult of beauty, the eternal promise of growth, recreational stress and self-care trends, as well as of the great search for meaning. Because in the end, all that remains is a big nothing – isn’t it?

PLEASURE is the third and last part of the series „Emotions and Politics“, in which OBLIVIA traces the complex mixture of emotional states and their personal and political implications in three music theatre productions. For this production, the Finnish sound performer Juha Valkeapää joined the core team. The first piece of the trilogy VERDRÄNGEN VERDRÄNGEN VERDRÄNGEN premiered at Theater Rampe in 2020 as part of the ECLAT Festival. The second part, the NOperas! production OBSESSIONS, premiered in early 2022 at Theater Bremen and recently at Oper Wuppertal. The world premiere of PLEASURE, again to be experienced at the Rampe, closes the thematic circle of the emotional in the political and how the political effects of our emotional upheavals. All this in OBLIVIA’s very own way, that effortlessly interweaves and humorously negotiates the all-too-human and the world-changing.
